Richard Shook Dulcimers are handcrafted in the foothills of western North Carolina. They are constructed from mostly Appalachian woods. Some of the wood is harvested locally. Great care is taken in choosing the wood for each instrument. Many of the dulcimers are made from specialty woods, including reclaimed wormy chestnut, cherry and maple. Each instrument is uniquely crafted for a one-of-a-kind look and tone.
An experienced woodworker and luthier, Richard and his wife have owned and operated The Country Cabin since 1982 where he builds a line of custom furniture. In addition to dulcimers, he also handcrafts fine fiddles. Richard, a first rate old time musician, plays his fiddles at many of the area's fiddler's conventions and festivals.
